5 Steps to Better Business Cybersecurity

Do you ever wonder if you, your business, or your employees are low hanging fruit for cyber attackers?  Carlton Jeffcoat from Allen Corporation and Bill Fanelli from the Council of Better Business Bureaus will share a methodical approach for small businesses to easily practice better security. The Cybersecurity Framework functional areas – Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond and Recover – will be presented as 5 steps applied to a hypothetical small business experiencing cyber incidents. They will walk you through scenarios with familiar systems such as Email, Point of Sale, and the all-to- familiar scenario of a lost mobile device.  You will take away strategies to improve cybersecurity resilience in their own organization!

Carlton Jeffcoat is Senior Vice President of the Cyber Security Division of Allen Corporation of America and its wholly-owned subsidiary, forensic software and services company, WetStone Technologies. At Allen Corporation, Mr. Jeffcoat has developed its professional services group into Intel Security’s highest rated partner. During his tenure at WetStone Technologies, the company has been named by Cybersecurity Ventures as a Hot Cybersecurity Company to Watch in both 2015 and 2016.

Bill Fanelli is Chief Security Officer for the Council of Better Business Bureaus (CBBB), the umbrella organization for 112 BBBs across North America. This position was created in 2014, but Mr. Fanelli previously worked with CBBB as a security consultant during a major phishing scam in 2012, and then as interim Chief Information Officer. Mr. Fanelli has a wide breadth of information security experience with over 25 years developing and implementing complex security and monitoring solutions. For the last 11 years his focus has been in the deployment of data center, desktop, and network security solutions in enterprises with 300,000+ devices.
